The goal of this training program is to increase the number of qualified and diverse coaching and management candidates in professional and amateur levels throughout the hockey ecosystem.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion by eliminating barriers, accelerating development and creating a lasting impact in our community. We believe in inclusion and are determined to influence change that addresses systemic issues in the sport of hockey as well as within the communities we represent.

In line with our commitment, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be launching the fourth year of our Management and Coaching Development program, offering a full-time, paid contract management position during the 2024-25 season from September 15, 2024, to July 15, 2025

Management Development Program The management position will provide valuable professional experience to the candidate, allow for the opportunity to infuse a fresh perspective within our organization and increase the candidates' social capital within the broader hockey/sport community. The Toronto Maple Leafs are committed to providing this management position to Black and Indigenous candidates or those who identify as part of another marginalized and/or racialized group.

The successful candidate will be mentored directly by the Toronto Maple Leafs front office and staff. This role will provide experience in different areas of hockey operations within the organization including roster management, salary cap, minor leagues, player development, media relations, player personnel, scouting, draft, free agency, business relations, etc. The ideal candidate should be adaptable and open to working on various tasks and projects in different areas related to professional hockey over the course of the season.

The individual selected for the Management Development program will receive a salary commensurate with experience up to $75,000 CAD, paid semi-monthly. Travel and accommodation to required NHL and AHL events will be covered as part of the program experience.

Who is the ideal Management Development candidate? The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for an individual with any level of experience in sport who is Black or Indigenous or identifies as part of another marginalized and/or racialized group. This individual is passionate about gaining a deeper understanding of working within a professional sports organization and gaining exposure to a variety of different hockey operations and business units. The ideal candidate is committed to their own personal development and embodies the values of character, commitment and teamwork.

Coaching Development Program This position will provide valuable professional hockey coaching experience, an opportunity to infuse a fresh perspective within our organization and increase the candidates' social capital within the broader hockey community. The Toronto Maple Leafs are committed to providing this coaching position to Black and Indigenous candidates or those who identify as part of another marginalized and/or racialized group.

The successful candidate will be mentored directly by the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies coaching staff. This role will provide exposure to coaching and player development roles with the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) and Toronto Marlies (AHL). *As per league guidelines, roles may not include being on the bench for games at the NHL or AHL level but would include being in the coaches' room and on the ice in practice situations.

Who is the ideal Coaching Development candidate? The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for an individual with any level of coaching experience in hockey who is Black or Indigenous or identifies as part of another marginalized and/or racialized group and exemplifies a passion and dedication to growth within the game of hockey. The ideal candidate has demonstrated their work in any aspect of hockey operations or coaching including but not limited to minor hockey, post-secondary and/or community programs.
